Community Champion Award Recipient: Rosa Avalos

At Amevian Home Care, we believe in recognizing individuals who go above and beyond to bring care, meaning, and joy to others. That’s why we created the Community Champion Award—to shine a light on local people who make an extraordinary impact. This quarter, we’re proud to recognize Rosa Avalos, nominated by the wonderful Carol Pickard.

Rosa joined Sonrisa in November 2024, and it didn’t take long for her to make a lasting impression. Carol shared how Rosa’s presence was immediately felt by the team and residents alike. Most recently, Rosa created something truly inspiring: a “HERSTORY Wall”—a brilliant twist on the word "history" designed to celebrate the incredible women within their community during Women’s History Month.

The display features beautifully framed photos and thoughtful bios of the women who live there, honoring their unique journeys and contributions. The wall has quickly become a highlight for residents, staff, families, and visitors alike. It’s more than a tribute—it’s a living installation of inspiration and dignity.

Carol called it “a must-see,” and we couldn’t agree more. What started as a month-long celebration is now a permanent feature, with new women added as they move in and choose to share their story.
